Salon 1837 presents: The Burns Night – Poetry, Music, Indulgence

Andreas Winkler, tenor and former soloist of the Zurich Opera House, and Michael Winkler on guitar, bring to life the resonant soul of Scotland with their romantically melancholic musical adaptations of Burns’ works. The storyteller Eilanne Januth, with her heartfelt recitation, illuminates the poetry of Burns, while Daniel Graf of Pipes and Drums Zurich opens and accompanies the evening with his bagpipe melodies. The renowned chef Carlos Navarro provides the culinary element, crafting a meticulously composed 4-course menu to bring the Burns Supper to the table. In the unique atmosphere of Musée Visionnaire, Salon 1837 invites you to discover the soul of Scotland – The Burns Night: An evening full of moving stories, unforgettable music, and culinary finesse.

Ensemble:

  • Andreas Winkler & Michael Winkler: Andreas Winkler, former soloist at the Zurich Opera House, is a celebrated opera and concert singer with engagements worldwide – from Munich to Tokyo to New York. Together with Michael Winkler on guitar, he transports listeners with beautiful ballads into the mystical soundscape of Scotland. Their compositions, set to the words of Robert Burns, blend the poems with sensual melodies.
  • Carlos Navarro: Former head chef at Rechberg 1837, Carlos Navarro (15 Gault-Millau points, 1 Michelin Green Star) is a pioneer of sustainable cuisine. With his philosophy "The plate begins in the field," he creatively showcases regional ingredients. For Burns Night, he interprets the classic menu with finesse, bringing his passion for sustainable cooking directly to the plate.
  • Eilanne Januth: The Scottish storyteller captivates with the recitation of Robert Burns’ most famous poems, bringing the poetry of Scotland to life.
  • Daniel Graf: The bagpiper opens the evening with Pipe Tunes and accompanies the ceremonial arrival of the Haggis.
  • Musée Visionnaire: Situated in the heart of Niederdorf, at Predigerplatz, Musée Visionnaire offers a stage for artists who work beyond established categories. In the legendary rooms of 1968, designed by architects Trix and Robert Haussmann, two changing exhibitions per year combine Outsider Art with works by established artists. On January 25, this inspiring space will transform into a stage for the Burns Supper.
